Damage reports, power outages across Quad Cities, surrounding areas after storm Monday (2024)

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Quad Cities and surrounding areas had tornado warnings in effect on Monday night, during a storm that brought high winds to the area.

Monday was a First Alert Day thru 11 p.m. for high heat and severe storms, which hit the area throughout the day and into the evening.

In the aftermath of the storm, QCOMM911 reminded people who to call for service versus emergencies.

In Davenport:

  • In the aftermath of the storm Davenport Public Works crews are reminding drivers and residents of safety precautions. Tuesday the officials posted to Facebook saying the following:
  • At approximately 8:16 p.m. TV6 had a crew on scene at Brady Street in Davenport where the street was blocked off around 37th Street. The Shell gas station looks to have had a log or maybe a powerline base in the middle of the road, from what TV6 crews on scene said.
  • At approximately 8:42 p.m. TV6 crews reported seeing large tree branches down on Harrison next to dealerships. A power line was knocked down as well with no power along a stretch of Harrison Street, before downtown Davenport.
  • At approximately 8:43 p.m. TV6 received a report of a large tree branch down on Pershing near Central Park in Davenport.
  • At approximately 8:47 TV6 received reports of multiple trees and power lines down at Locust Street by Duck Creek Pavilion
  • KWQC TV6 crews on scene photo of trees down at the corner of Garfield and Sheraton in Davenport.

  • At NWE Credit Island in Scott County large tree branches were reported to be down with estimated 75 mph wind gusts
  • TV6 viewer Tracy Payne submitted damage from a garage on Kenwood and 18th across from McKinley Elementary

In Bettendorf:

  • TV6 viewer submitted photo of tree damage in Bettendorf at Kiwanis Park

  • The City of Bettendorf posted to Facebook with an update saying:

“Grant Street from 8th Street to 12th Street (west of Interstate 74) is closed due to fallen trees and downed power lines. Please stay clear of this area so crews can assess the damage and clear debris.

Crews are assessing damage throughout the City of Bettendorf after a strong storm swept through the area on July 15, 2024. We will post updates here and at www.bettendorf.org. Please be patient as we begin clean-up efforts.”

In Carbon Cliff:

  • The Carbon Cliff- Barstow Fire District posted to Facebook with an update around 10 p.m.

In Henry County:

  • According to Henry County officials major highways are blocked off by downed trees
  • The Henry County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook around 9 p.m. with an update saying:

“Please refrain from unnecessary travel. Many roads in Henry County, including Cambridge, Kewanee, Colona, Orion, and other areas, are currently impassable due to downed power lines, utility poles, and trees. Emergency responders are attending to calls in a prioritized manner. Maintain safety and patience.”

In Moline:

  • Tree and power line down between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue on 27th Street in Moline

In East Moline:

  • A TV6 viewer submitted storm damage of a large tree down

In Swedona:

  • Barn and grain bin damages were reported in Swedona, Ill.

In Kewanee:

  • At approximately 8:22 p.m. TV6 received multiple reports of severe damage in Kewanee, Ill.
  • Most of the city of Kewanee was reported to be without power, according to MidAmerican Energy
  • A tree was reported to be on a house in Kewanee, according to a TV6 viewer
  • The City of Kewanee posted to their Facebook page with an update

“Our city sustained a lot of damage between last night and today. We understand everyone will be anxious to get tings cleaned up. Please be patient with our crews as they begin placing barricades, clearing streets, moving downed trees and limbs, and working with utility companies to restore services. We ask that you stay off the roads if possible, and stay far away from any downed lines. Keep an eye on our page and website for updates as they are available.”

In Reynolds:

  • At approximately 7:26 p.m. several power outages, tree limbs down, and gutters blown off houses were reported, according to the National Weather Service.

In Elizabeth:

  • A TV6 viewer submitted photos of storm damage near a barn

In Lynn Center:

  • TV6 viewer submitted a storm photo from Lynn Center, Ill.

In Carroll County:

“Travel is not advised! We have several roads closed due to trees and power lines down. Emergency crews are doing their best to respond but have numerous calls to respond to.”

“Emergency crews continue to respond to weather related calls. All roads are open to at least one lane at this time. There were several trees down, power lines down and a minimal amount of structural damage. Crews will continue to assist with these throughout the night.”

In Wapello:

  • Wapello Fire and Rescue posted to Facebook with an update

“There are multiple trees around Wapello that are down. Some may be on power lines, we are currently trying to assess the situation. If you do not have a reason to be out, please stay home, the large number of onlookers is impeding our ability to assess the situation and open roadways with the little amount of daylight left. Again, unless you have a reason to be out, please stay home. We appreciate your cooperation.”

In Galva:

  • At approximately 8:01 p.m. trees and power lines were reported to be down, according to the National Weather Service.

In Prairie Grove, Des Moines County:

  • At approximately 7:44 p.m. eight-inch tree limbs blocking roads were reported, according to the National Weather Service.

In Cambridge:

  • At approximately 7:55 p.m. lots of damage in town was reported with estimated winds between 80 mph to 100 mph.
  • As of 7:47 p.m. there was a confirmed tornado over Andover and Cambridge, according to the National Weather Service.

There are many power outages being reported across Iowa and Illinois.

According to MidAmerican Energy as of 10:09 p.m. there are 17,247 customers without power in the Iowa Quad Cities and 17,530 customers without power in the Illinois Quad Cities.

As of Tuesday morning, MidAmerican Energy reported 8,594 outages in the Iowa Quad Cities and 6,781 outages in the Illinois Quad Cities.
